Daily Helping for September 21st, 2021 – Souphaluck Phongsavath

An image of a painting by Souphaluck phongsavath. The painting shows a forest of bare trees in winter with snow on the ground and an icy sky.

Today’s daily helping is another happy accident. I was searching for something else, completely unrelated to the Daily Hart, and happened upon the artist Souphaluck Phongsavath from Laos. And just like last time, I was stopped in my tracks. What’s interesting about this artist is that her work is quite varied. Her portfolio contains everything from pastel hued portraits of female characters to abstract works of vividly coloured blocks. However, my favourite by far is the landscape above. There is something about this barren image that I love. The stoic isolation of the branches left alone in the wilderness. It’s not a landscape I would normally associate with Laos, but then again, I’ve never been to Laos, so I probably have a lot to learn. Thankfully, I have artists like Souphaluck Phongsavath to teach me.
