Daily Helping for September 22nd, 2021 – Aerial Straps Duo – The Same

A photo still from the performance of The Same by an aerial straps duo at the 2019 Festival Mondial du Cirque De Demain in Paris. The two performers are suspended in the air by two straps, their bodies perfectly vertical, with one only holding onto the other's shoulders.

I decided that I needed at least one more aerial performance before this challenge comes to an end, and since YouTube’s algorithm has been suggesting this video to me for weeks, I finally clicked play. And then my jaw dropped to the ground. Multiple times. Because this performance is breathtakingly beautiful. It also boggles my mind the level of trust that is needed between the two artists to pull this off. How many times are they holding onto each other with just one hand or foot? How many times do they hold each other’s lives in their hands? It’s extraordinary.

This performance is from the Festival Mondial du Cirque De Demain in Paris, and let’s just say I will absolutely be buying a ticket to the next iteration, whenever that may be. If this is the quality of work that it showcases, I am all in. Even if I’ll be having semi-heart attacks the whole time.

One last note. I’m not even a guy and that last pose made me wince. How are some people so flexible?!
