Daily Helping for January 17th, 2023 – SMJK Phor Tay – Sarong Impression

During the first Daily Hart challenge, I rediscovered my love of dance. By the end of that first year, I had featured dances from over a dozen different countries. This year, however, I have been neglecting the dance medium, having only featured it once so far. Well that ends today, because for some reason, the algorithm gods of YouTube decided to send this video my way. And thank goodness they did. My love of dance has been reignited!

From what I can tell, the group performing is the SMJK Phor Tay high school in Penang, Malaysia. Which is something that makes this video even more incredible. These are not professionals, but rather high school students. Although they certainly dance like professionals in my opinion. But I also know very little about Malaysian dance, so perhaps this is a typical student performance. All I know for sure is that I love everything about this video. The dancing, the music, the costumes, the video projections. Everything. Something tells me there’s a lot more international dance performances in my future…
