Daily Helping for October 9th, 2021 – Norine Braun – Alberta

A close up photo of Norine Braun. She is smiling at the camera and holding a guitar.

About this time last year I was feeling the sting of lockdown particularly hard. Mostly because I wanted to go back to Canada, but COVID restrictions were making that a nearly impossible endeavour in the timeframe needed. It was actually a not insignificant reason why I started this project. Therefore, for the final weekend of the Daily Hart, I decided to find something Canadian. And find something I did. Norine Braun is a Canadian singer-songwriter who currently hails from my hometown. But apparently, she grew up in Alberta, as stated in this aptly-titled song, “Alberta“. And I love it. It’s a melodic, beautiful, and deeply chill listen. It’s also a love letter to an entire province, and I’d be lying if I said it didn’t make me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Especially when a full year later, I still haven’t made it back to Canada. Hopefully that will happen soon, but until then, I have Norine Braun to keep me company.
