Nilah Magruder is an author and artist who has published short stories, graphic novels, and children’s picture books. And I am completely in love with her work. Her portfolio is impressively varied, and she has worked for Marvel, Disney, and Scholastic on a range of projects. That being said, I found the image above in her personal works, and I can’t stop looking at it. There is something so hauntingly beautiful about this piece. I keep imagining the story behind it and who these characters are. There’s infinite possibilities, and I love them all.
Nilah Magruder also happens to be an openly asexual and aromantic creator, which I think may be a first for the Daily Hart. Knowing this, it’s perhaps a bit ironic that the image above is the one that jumped out at me, as I think it’s very romantic. But like the artist, I know that you don’t have to want romance to appreciate it or its depiction. I’m just happy to see ace presentation, especially from someone so talented. I can’t wait to explore the rest of her back catalogue.
