Wait. Wait! I know what you’re thinking. “She’s cheating already! How could she have not heard about Lizzo?!” Well, fine friends, I have indeed heard of Lizzo, because despite my best efforts, I do not live under a rock. That being said, I had never heard one of her songs before, because I am just that uncool. So to kick off the Daily Hart, I’m starting with Lizzo. Specially, her single “Good as Hell“. Which, incidentally, is very appropriately titled song.
Now, I’m not even going to pretend to be a music connoisseur, because frankly, I would fail miserably at it. The bar by which I judge music tends to be whether or not a song makes me smile, and this one most certainly did. Partly because of the wonderfully empowering lyrics. But also because of the clear joy that is radiating out of the music video. I’ve also been fascinated by the precision of marching bands for as long as I can remember, so this video was always going to be a personal delight. Seriously, how do marching bands do what they do?
I don’t know why it took me so long to get on the Lizzo train, aforementioned uncoolness aside, but better late than never I suppose. More importantly, I wish there had been more music videos celebrating female friendships and all body sizes when I was a teenager, but once again, better late than never. I can’t wait to delve further into Lizzo’s discography, but in the meantime, I have a feeling I’ll be humming “Good as Hell” for the foreseeable future.
EDIT: I will absolutely be humming this song for weeks to come. Seriously, this is one impressively catchy song!
