A photo of a geisha performance. It shows one geisha sitting on the floor playing a shamisen guitar while another is mid-dance with one arm extended above her head.

Daily Helping for June 21st, 2023 – Geisha Performance

I recently found myself in Kanazawa, Japan, where it is possible to attend a Geisha performance. So of course there weren’t any scheduled Geisha performances on the one day I was in that city. Because Murphy’s Law is my constant companion. However, I did visit the Geisha district and several of the museums there, which was where I was able to watch a recording of a performance. I was also able to speak with one of the museum tour guides, who told me all about the process and training required to become a Geisha. Let’s just say it’s intense. But you can absolutely see all of that training on display in the recording I watched. The women were so effortlessly talented in their music and dancing, not to mention effortlessly charming in their interactions with the audience and the games they played. The next time I go to Kanazawa (and there will be a next time!) I will be sure to plan my calendar more strategically.
