Daily Helping for October 23rd, 2020 – Eloise Currie – Imprint

A photo of performer Eloise Currie mid-contortion during her performance of Imprint.

Remember a couple of days ago when I said I’ve always admired the precise movements of dancers? Well, this video takes that admiration to a whole new level. Part dance, part aerial straps routine, this performance by Eloise Currie took my breath away. Literally. I actually gasped out loud about halfway through, and I was watching on YouTube. I can’t even imagine how magical it must have been to have watched this performance in person.

I also can’t imagine having such impeccable control over your body. Never mind the physical contortions and flexibility on display. I know I will never be able to do the same. My body is just not built that way. But the command that she has over every small movement? The sheer strength on display? Those could one day be attainable, in theory, with a lot of hard work. And this video would be one hell of an inspiration along the way. Maybe it’s time to finally go for it.

I’ve always loved the circus arts. Ever since I first tried trapeze when I was 16, I’ve wanted to explore this medium further. The aerial straps in particular have always fascinated me, so hopefully this is the kick in the pants I need to try them out once gyms re-open. In the meantime, I know I’ll be watching more videos like this one, so be prepared for a lot more circus-themed Daily Helpings coming your way.
