Daily Helping for October 6th, 2021 – Elena Karamihailova

An image of a painting by Elena Karamihailova. The painting shows two women dressed in Victorian dress. One is sitting in a pink dress. The other is standing and looking at herself in a mirror in a blue and green dress.

As we head into the final days of this challenge, I’m continuing my habit of picking countries at random and seeing what I can discover. Today’s helping comes from Bulgaria, courtesy of this beautiful painting by Elena Karamihailova. She is considered to be one of the top early 20th century Bulgarian artists and post-Impressionists. And course, before today, I had never heard of her. But I loved looking through her work, because as I’ve said before, I love post-Impressionism. The painting above stood out to me in particular, mostly because of the beautiful detailing and brushstrokes on their dresses. But also because the name, “In Front of the Mirror“, is so hilariously on point. This painting is on display at the National Gallery of Bulgaria, so now I have yet another museum to add to my “must visit” list. This list is never ending, but I’m okay with that.
