As we inch ever closer to the new year and a whole hell of a lot of instability and unknowns, I’m continuing to seek inspiration from people who are way braver than me. People like Angel Maxine, Ghana’s first openly transgender musician. Ghana is a terrifying place to be LGBTQ, and there is currently a proposed law before the Ghanian parliament that would criminalize any sort of LGBTQ advocacy. Not just being queer, but even saying anything good about it. And still Angel Maxine releases her music and fights against the discrimination she faces every day. Despite the fact that she could be jailed indiscriminately or even killed because of it. I can’t even fathom the level of courage needed to do what she’s doing. But I applaud her for it in every sense of the word.
