Daily Helping for December 24th, 2022 – Yasuhiro Chida

Paris is a magical city. And every December, it gets a little bit more magical with all the lights and decorations that go up. But because this is Paris, there is an extra level of awesome, because in addition to lights on trees and lampposts, there’s also full on art installations on display. Take, for example, the Lumières! walk in the Parc de la Villette.

Lumières! is an illuminated path through the park that showcases eight different contemporary art installations, including star constellations projected onto the water of the canal, disco balls, song-powered illuminated trees, and a fairy garden. And it’s completely free to walk through. I love Paris.

The installations were all beautiful, but I particularly liked the one above by Yasuhiro Chida. You walk through a field of illuminated strings, all the while taking in the accompanying soundscape, and afterwards, there is a beautiful view of the installation from above. I love that I live in a city that invites artists from all over the world to create art that is freely available to the public. Especially at the holidays.
