Daily Helping for August 29th, 2021 – Versailles Fountain Show

A photo of the fountains at the Versailles Fountain Show. Three jets of water and being sprayed into the air, as the sun sets in the background.

To be honest, I don’t know if this one is technically cheating. Try as I might, I couldn’t find a credits list for this show anywhere online. But it was too beautiful to not count for something, so I’m choosing to believe that there were at least some women involved in its creation. Because the Versailles Fountain Show may be art, but is also an Event, and I imagine a small army is needed to pull it off.

And what exactly is the Versailles Fountain Show? Well, it’s this incredible event that happens every summer in the gardens of the Palace of Versailles. Every Saturday night, all of the fountains are turned on, the jets of water are timed to music, and you can walk through the gardens, going from show to show, champagne glass in hand. And at the end of the evening, as a grand finale, a beautiful fireworks display is ignited above the Grand Canal. In other words, it’s basically my idea of a perfect Saturday night out.

I think it goes without saying that this event is extraordinarily beautiful. I could have spent hours just watching the fountain shows, but there was so much more to see. So much, in fact, that we didn’t even get to see it all, despite arriving right at opening. I guess that means I’ll just have to go back next year. Life can be so hard sometimes…
