For today’s helping, I found myself in the mood for another children’s book. I’m not entirely sure why. Maybe it was because it’s a Saturday. Or maybe I’m just a kid at heart. Either way, my YouTube search eventually landed on the adorable story Starring Carmen! by Anika Denise. The titular Carmen believes that all the world’s a stage, and she performs elaborate productions every night for her family. She also directs, designs the costumes, and in general, is a one-woman theatrical sensation.
For those of you who don’t know me, let’s just say that I was thoroughly enchanted by this adorable story. And for those of you who do know me, believe me when I say that I related to this story. Hard. Because I may have staged an elaborate theatrical production or two when I was Carmen’s age. And although I never tried to cast my brother as a rock in any of them, my family was very patient with my theatrical endeavours. Especially when I was belting out show tunes at all hours of the day.
So yeah. Starring Carmen! is an adorable book. And if you can overly relate to it, you’re obviously my kind of people.
