Daily Helping for April 29th, 2021 – Ross Gay – Catalog of Unabashed Gratitude

Today is daily helping #200 of the Daily Hart. 200! I don’t know what it is about that number, but somehow starting with a ‘2’ feels momentous. For the first time, I actually feel like I’m going to complete this challenge. Not just hope I finish, but actually feel like it’s going to happen. I still have over five months to go, but somehow that now seem completely doable, all because of one little ‘2’. And I can’t think of anything more appropriate to feature on a day like today than “Catalog of Unabashed Gratitude” by Ross Gay.

These past couple of months have been a challenge in many ways, and during such times, it can be easy to lose sight of everything you have to be grateful for. So reading this poem was like a soothing balm for the soul. It’s a wonderful reminder of just how much beauty there is in the world, if only we allow ourselves to see it. As Ross Gay says so eloquently, “It makes me squirm like a worm I am so grateful.”

I don’t know if I’m at the squirming phase just yet, but I am grateful. I’m grateful to the person who sent in this rec. I’m grateful for this project that brings me joy and keeps me learning every day. But most of all, I’m grateful to everyone who has been following me on this journey. I sometimes wonder if I’m just shouting into the wind about all these artists and art that I’m discovering, but your messages of support and encouragement keep me going every day.

“I can’t stop my gratitude, which includes, dear reader, you, for staying here with me.”
