Daily Helping for February 11th, 2021 – Post:ballet – Waltz of the Snowflakes

A photo still of the dancers from Post:ballet, mid-performance of Waltz of the Snowflakes

The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has been devastating for so many industries. Tourism has been gutted. Events are still cancelled. And the arts have been left scrambling for ways to keep afloat. I’ve always loved going to see live theatre, music, and dance, but I never knew how much I would miss them until the option to buy a ticket was suddenly gone. And yet so many artists have continued to find ways to continue their work. This morning I found this video by Post:ballet, and I was overwhelmed by the beauty and resilience on display.

This video was published on December 14th, 2020, just in time for Christmas, but I’m almost grateful that I didn’t discover it until now. We’re nearly six weeks into 2021, the pandemic isn’t getting better, and temperatures are freezing. So this is exactly the shot of sunshine I need to start my day. Beautiful dancers, clad in tutus and face masks, performing a gorgeous ballet while staying socially distanced. They’re not onstage. They’re outdoors, in what I can only hope was warm weather. Theatres may be closed, but these dancers still found a way to create and connect with an audience.

I love this video for so many reasons. But mostly I’m just grateful that artists are still creating. Art is finding a way, and I’m just along for the ride. And I couldn’t be happier.
