I recently attended a performance by Phare Circus in Cambodia. This extraordinary circus troupe is composed of students and graduates of the Phare Ponleu Selpakās vocational training center, which provides education and skills training to Cambodia’s disadvantaged youth. The performers and circus artists were all incredible, and their costumes were beautiful. In fact, I was so distracted by what I was seeing onstage, I failed to take a single photo of the performance.
However, after the show was over, a painting was left propped up on the stage. It had been created live during the performance, adding yet another layer of talent to this group of artists. I stared at the painting for quite some time, wondering how something so beautiful could have been created in just a mere 25 minutes. Some people are just too talented.
If you find yourself in Siem Reap in the future, I highly recommend that you check out Phare Circus. It will be an experience you will not soon forget.
