Daily Helping for December 1st, 2020 – Nitish Bharti – Sand Art

A photo of artist Nitish Bharti throwing sand into the air.

As part of the Daily Hart challenge, I wanted to experience new artists and talents. I also wanted to learn about new forms of art; new mediums and disciplines. And frankly, it’s been inspiring to discover that people are making incredible works of art from even the most humblest of materials. Today’s helping is a wonderful example of this. I wasn’t sure what I would find when I searched for sand art, but I certainly wasn’t expecting the beauty of this video by Nitish Bharti. It’s a wonderful way to kick off the final month of the year that was 2020.

I will say that as much as I loved this video, I do wish it was longer. The images and scenes that Bharti creates are gorgeous, but I found myself wanting to see more of the process of creating them. From what was shown, it seems that sand art is the reverse of traditional painting methods. Instead of adding a material to create an image, you’re removing them. The images only come to life when the sand is removed and the light can shine through. It’s a fascinating process that I wish the video showed more of. That being said, I still loved it. It’s proof that art really can be created from anything. All it takes is a little imagination to see the possibilities inherent in something as simple as sand.
