The city of Matsuyama is not just famous for its castle. It is also home to the Dogo Onsen, one of the oldest and most famous hot springs in all of Japan. Unfortunately, most of the traditional buildings of the Dogo Onsen are currently under scaffolding as part of a multi-year restoration project. But parts of the building are uncovered, and as I explored their hallways, I came across a courtyard that contained an art installation by Mika Ninagawa. This installation consisted of hundreds of photographs of bright and vibrantly coloured flowers, and it more than made up for the disappointment of the scaffolding. It was a beautiful way to bring a contemporary touch to such a traditional place, and I loved it.
