Today’s helping came to me through a recommendation, and all I can say is that I have officially found my new calming song. There is just something so soothing about Lata Mangeshkar’s voice. I have no idea what she’s saying, but I could absolutely listen to her sing for hours.
I also did a quick search, and it turns out Lata Mangeshkar is extraordinarily prolific. She appears as a playback singer in over a thousand Indian films, and has recorded songs in over 35 different languages. Which is truly astonishing when you think about it. A thousand films! That being said, this particular song is not from a film. Instead, it’s a 16th century prayer written by Goswami Tulsidas, considered to be one of the greatest poets of the Hindi language, as well as being someone else I’ve never heard of. There seems to be no end to the well of artists there are to discover in this world. And I love it.
