Daily Helping for May 11th, 2023 – Kimono Fashion by Shibasaki Rumi and Yoshiki

I recently went to one of my favourite museums in Paris to see their latest exhibition, Kimono. The exhibition traced the history of the kimono throughout the centuries, both as a fashion piece and as a status symbol. It was fascinating to see how such a seemingly simple garment can be so interwoven with the history of a country, not to mention discovering just how much it has influenced art and culture abroad.

I (entirely predictably) loved the entire exhibition, but I especially loved the final displays of contemporary fashion inspired by the kimono. There were dozens of pieces on display to admire, but I particularly loved the two above by Shibasaki Rumi and Yoshiki. They’re somehow both contemporary and timeless, not to mention elegant. I’m looking forward to learning more about both of these designers and furthering my fashion education.
