To be honest, I can’t remember what search term led me to the Kampot Playboys, but I somehow landed on this video of theirs from a CD launch party in 2018. It’s literally just someone filming the performance on their camera, so certainly not the most professional video I’ve ever featured. But I instantly fell in love with the frenetic energy of this song and the style of music being played. The Kampot Playboys bill themselves as a fusion band, playing a combination of Khmer folk, pop, and rock music. And I love it.
In an interesting twist of fate, I actually happened to be in Kampot recently, but sadly I wasn’t able to see them live. However, Kampot is an amazing place, and I will absolutely be back at some point in the future. Hopefully I’ll be able to catch them live the second time around.
