Daily Helping for November 16th, 2022 – Joohyun Kim – Net of Life – Arch

I often seek out the art that I feature as daily helpings. But sometimes, art just finds me. And I love it. Today’s daily helping was one such example of art finding me. I was walking over the Seoullo 7017 when I saw a sign for something called Docking Seoul. I was intrigued. Intrigued enough that I kept searching for it even after taking a wrong turn and having to double back to take a second go at finding the entrance. But find it I did, and it was incredible.

Docking Seoul is basically an abandoned circular car ramp for an old parking garage. But today, it is home to half a dozen art installations by Korean artists and citizens of Seoul. I loved all the pieces, but I was particularly drawn to Net of Life – Arch by Joohyun Kim. You could actually walk under this enormous installation and arch, and the design and lights were beautiful. I spent several minutes just taking it all in, and I loved it. Who knew an old parking ramp could inspire such beauty? Not me. But then again, I’m constantly amazed at the ingenuity of artists.
