Once again I have come across a photograph that completely stopped me in my tracks. “Chosen Family” by Jaime Prada was selected by the 2023 Scottish Portrait Awards, and it’s easy to see why. This photo is stunningly beautiful in its quiet intimacy, and it practically radiates with love.
The title of this piece is also beautiful, because while we all have chosen families to some extent, they are often vital and lifesaving communities for queer people. The way Jaime Prada has subtly captured this urgency is exquisite, and I could honestly look at this photograph all day. Hopefully this award will be the first of many to come for this talented artist.
