From Uzbekistan to Kazakhstan, this week is all about Central Asia at the Daily Hart. During the first year’s challenge, a rec came through telling me to check out Q-pop. Or pop music from Kazakhstan. So I did, discovering the group Ninety-One and the world of Kazakh boybands. This time around, I wanted to discover the women of Q-pop, which is how I discovered IceBlue and their song “Beat“. It’s a fascinating listen with its blend of genres and languages. And the video is a lot more provocative than I would have expected for a group from Kazakhstan. But that’s probably just my western bias coming through yet again. All I can say is that I’m officially a fan, and I can’t wait to discover the rest of IceBlue’s discography.
