Okay, yesterday’s helping was a bit intense, right? There’s nothing like a devastating war film to make you crave something a little more upbeat. Enter today’s discovery, Lebanese singer Elissa. This song came to me through a rec, and I will admit to being quite taken with her voice and the tempo of the song at first listen. And then I made the fatal error of looking up the English translation of the lyrics. “Halet Hob” is certainly not the emotional gut punch of yesterday, but it’s also not all sunshine and rainbows. And in listening to the song again, I can absolutely hear the weariness and longing in her voice.
But she does have a gorgeous voice, and despite the melancholy undertones, this song is beautiful. According to Google, Elissa is one of the most famous singers in the Arab world, so I’m looking forward to discovering more of her extensive discography. In the meantime, I know I’ll be humming this song for the rest of the day.
