Daily Helping for January 21st, 2021 – Chinese Ribbon Dance

A photo still from the video of the Chinese Ribbon Dance performed at the Met in February 2019.

I really wish I had more to go on when it comes to this video. Even the title, Chinese Ribbon Dance, is so vaguely generic. But that’s what the notes say and the comments are turned off. I even checked the New York Chinese Cultural Center’s website, but couldn’t find any more information. All I know is that this dance was performed as part of the Chinese New Year in 2019, and that the performance was to celebrate the Year of the Pig. I also love it. I’m not entirely sure how the dancers get the ribbons to flow the way they do, but I swear the laws of physics were suspended on multiple occasions.

I wish I knew more about this piece, but for now I’ll just enjoy the performance. That being said, if anyone can enlighten me further, please let me know.
