Daily Helping for November 25th, 2020 – Charlie Rebekah Caplan Wilson – Tulips

A photo of performer Charlie Rebekah Caplan Wilson sitting on the static trapeze, mid-performance.

It’s time for another circus performance! Seriously, I can’t get enough of these. At this point, I think I will be perpetually in awe of what these performers can create with their bodies. I will also eternally commiserate the fact that I will never be that cool.

For today’s helping I went searching for a trapeze performance. I’ve seen some incredible static trapeze numbers in the past, and this video from artist Charlie Rebekah Caplan Wilson certainly didn’t disappoint. In fact, there was so much going on here I had to watch it three times. Once to marvel at the sheer strength and physicality on display. Once to actually listen to the words of the piece. And once to see how Caplan’s movements were choreographed in tandem with those words. Surprising absolutely no one, I loved this piece all three times.

I know I keep saying this, but I’m starting to actually mean it. Once this time of COVID-19 has (hopefully!) passed and we can start going to gyms again, I really should give the circus arts a try. I know I will never be able to do what Charlie Rebekah Caplan Wilson does in this video, but I also know I’ll have fun making the attempt. But rest assured, an attempt is all it will be. I mean, come on. Just look at what she does at 1:37. How is that even possible?
