I was reviewing the list of songs/music that I’ve featured on the Daily Hart so far, and I realized that I’ve yet to feature a jazz piece. This hasn’t been on purpose, but I will admit that jazz has never been one of my favourite music genres. I’m not entirely sure if this is because I just don’t understand it enough to appreciate it, or if it’s genuinely not my taste. Regardless, I decided that today was the day for jazz.
Full disclosure, it took me a while to find a song that I liked, perhaps lending credence to the theory that jazz just isn’t for me. But then I stumbled upon “You’re My Thrill” by Cécile McLorin Salvant, and all I can say is WOW. I LOVE this. It’s just so beautiful and soothing. As I listened, I found myself closing my eyes and swaying to the beat, and by the time the song was finished, I had a great big dopey smile on my face.
So do I suddenly like jazz? I have no idea. But I know that I love this song, and I will absolutely be listening to more of Cécile McLorin Salvant in the future.
