Yes, you read the title of this post correctly. Single Bamboo Pole Rafting. Not going to lie, this was not what I expected to find when I had the thought, “I wonder if I can find some water art?” In my head, I was picturing a Las Vegas style fountain show. Instead, YouTube sent me an ancient Chinese art. Sometimes I really love the Internet.
I wish I could tell you more about the history of single bamboo pole rafting, but further information has proved tricky to find. So as always, if anyone has any insights to share, I’m all ears. I’d love to learn about how and why this art/practice came into being. In the meantime, enjoy watching artist Yang Liu perform feats of balance that I can only dream of achieving.
