Daily Helping for May 10th, 2021 – Keone and Mari – Supergood

A photo still of Keone and Mari, sitting in the back of a truck, awkwardly looking away from each other.

I don’t know how they did this, but Keone and Mari somehow managed to distill everything that is awkward about being a teenager into this one short film. Specially, everything that is awkward about being a teenager on the cusp of entering the fraught world of dating. From the sidelong looks, hesitant glances, braces-induced lisp, this is pure adolescent cringe. But also in the best way possible.

And as if this video couldn’t get any better, a lot of its story was conveyed through dance. Of course, there was the obligatory, hands on the shoulder and waist, awkward teenage shuffle that I am far, far too familiar with. But this video also showcases some pretty spectacular choreography overall, all while keeping within the narrative.

And then there’s the nostalgia. All those 90s references and visual nods. Honestly, I don’t know if there are enough adjectives to describe how much I love this video, but I will say this. These two characters are absolutely adorable. Just pure and wonderful innocence and heart. Yes, I am well aware that these two “teenagers” are being played by fully grown adults, but that only adds to the charm. They’re just so gosh darn cute.

So happy Monday everyone! If this video doesn’t start your week with a smile, I don’t know what will.
